Lunch Bunch

Congratulations to Group 4 for winning group points for 10/7 to 10/18. They sure loved their sushi lunch!

Armory

Check out these photos from our first trip to the Armory. The students had to move through five stations today! What a workout! They should sleep well tonight.

Class 5-306 met with their Kindergarten buddies for the first time on October 18th. The Kindergarteners shared their favorite books with the 5th graders and then the 5th graders read the books to their little buddies. After, they filled out a special "Favorite Book" paper together. I was so impressed by the fifth graders and how they interacted with the Kindergarteners. They were so kind and nurturing!

Theory Posters

5-306ers have been working so hard on their theory posters with their reading partners. After reading the story Thank You, Mr. Faulker, reading partners developed a theory about the book, found evidence to support their theory, and then analyzed the evidence.

October's Family Friday

After discussing symbolism in Patricia Polacco's book, The Keeping Quilt, 5-306 students and visiting parents created symbolic quilt squares to represent themselves. Some students are still working on their squares, but stay tuned for a photo of the final product!

P.S. 154 Dancers Win Gold!

The P.S. 154 dance comeptitors received GOLD last Thursday and are moving on to the Semi Finals!! The next round will be held at P.S. 58 in Carroll Gardens (on the corner of Smith Street and Carroll Street) on June 17th. The competition starts at 4:30! We hope to see you there!

Reading Entries

~ Reading entries are assigned 1-2 days per week.

~ Students should be writing their entries 15-20 minutes, and they should reflect the work we're doing in class (developing theories, setting significance, character influence, theme, etc).

~ Entries should be written about the current book the student is reading.

~ Students have been collecting entry samples to refer to for support.

~ If an entry is not completed, it should be made up before the next reading entry is due.

~Entries are checked for completion each week. Class notebooks are collected for close readings and feedback about every four weeks. Students are expected to read the feedback and apply any recommendations to their future entries.
